On February 8, 2025, the International Physical Therapy Network (IPTN) successfully hosted its first-ever International Virtual Symposium, drawing more than 500 participants from 45 countries. The event brought together physiotherapists, clinic owners, rehabilitation experts, and researchers to explore cross-border collaboration, innovation, and challenges facing the field today.
The theme of the symposium was “Connected for Better Care,” focusing on how technology, professional standards, and international partnerships can enhance rehabilitation outcomes worldwide. Keynote sessions featured experts from Canada, Japan, South Africa, and Brazil, discussing topics such as AI in physiotherapy, virtual rehabilitation, and global certification practices.
Interactive panel discussions allowed attendees to share regional perspectives, with emphasis on how physiotherapy is evolving in underserved and rural communities. Several clinics showcased success stories of adopting tele-physio models during the COVID-19 pandemic and beyond.
One of the major highlights was the announcement of IPTN's international education initiative, which will offer continuing education credits (CEUs) through online courses starting Q3 2025. The symposium also introduced attendees to the newly launched Global Physio Directory and the Regional Ambassador Program.
"This event is not just a milestone for IPTN, but for the entire global physio community," said Dr. Anya Torres, Symposium Chair. "For the first time, professionals from every continent are having real-time discussions about shared standards, innovations, and challenges."
The event concluded with a live networking session and an open call for research collaboration across continents. Feedback was overwhelmingly positive, and IPTN confirmed the Virtual Symposium will become an annual flagship event.
